3rd Annual 5K Run/Walk, October 9th 2011
The 3rd annual 5K Run & Walk to help save sports in the MDUSD High Schools and help us raise 1.2 million dollars to keep athletics in our 6 high schools for 2011/2012 season! This is a fun family event! All ages welcome! There will be a timed competitive 5K run as well as fun run/walk and kiddie event. Medals and prizes awarded for various age groups. The school with the most sign-ups will be presented with a trophy to proudly display for a year. Food and entertainment will be available.

The plan MDUSD adopted to fund sports was from a combination of contribute-to-play fees and fund raising efforts. Unfortunately, many students’ families cannot afford the “contribute-to-play” fees. At least one-third of the district’s 4000 high school athletes qualify for the reduced-price lunch program. For these students we are asking businesses and individuals to sponsor an athlete for a season. The average contribution-to-play fee is $250 plus a mandatory $100 transportation fee.
Your sponsorship could make a huge difference in the life of a high school athlete – complementing that student’s academic life and perhaps providing the main reason they choose to stay in school.

NEW! Digital Coupon Program
UMDAF has signed on with the Music Foundation for a digital coupon program.This costs nothing for the families and athletes to sign up and can potentially raise significant money for athletics. Please encourage all your athletes and families to participate in this program and USE THE COUPONS!. The more participation from the communities using the coupons the more businesses will sign up for the program creating more revenue!

What you can do to support Athletics in 2010-2011?
We have a few organizations that are already working hard to make next season happen. Each High School has an Athletic Booster Club; these will be paramount in support of athletics at each of the six high schools. Join your high school Athletic Booster Club!
Sign-up or confirm that your eScrip dollars are going to your high school Athletic Boosters Club. The money you generate by purchasing groceries at Safeway to feed your family will be invaluable to our programs. Please do this today! There is no cost to you as a supporter! Safeway donates money based on your purchases
Once you are signed up for eScrip we ask all online shoppers to please use the eScrip Shopping Mall whenever possible. Donations from these purchases will also go directly to our programs. Some of our parents already use the eScrip Shopping Mall and we benefit hugely from this small group. Check out the eScrip site, www.escrip.com for more details.
Senior parents - we would love for you to continue supporting athletics thru eScrip and memberships. If you do not have another organization to support, please sign-up to support your grandchild in high school athletics thru a membership or eScrip so future athletes can participate in athletics, as your student-athlete was able to participate.
United Mt. Diablo Athletic Foundation (UMDAF)
This is an organization comprised of parents and community members from all six MDUSD high schools and is a cooperative effort of the six high schools working together as one “Team” with one common goal, MAKE ATHLETICS HAPPEN! Because of the ongoing state budget problems, the UMDAF was created primarily to provide fundraising and financial support specifically for MDUSD high school athletics.
HUGE thanks to all of our parents who have volunteered their time to be part of the Foundation and we have parents taking active roles throughout the Foundation on committees, as well as on the Board of Directors.
The Foundation will play a vital role in bringing back athletics. The foundation will be seeking Donations from corporate partners, local businesses, grant writing and many different types of Fundraisers.
